Odyssey launch Backstryke Putters
Press Release
SAY HELLO TO THE PUTTER THAT CAN IMPROVE YOUR STROKE…
Odyssey launches revolutionary Backstryke putters… the big idea is back!
Through relentless innovation and exploration, Odyssey has made a habit of developing ‘big idea’ products that revolutionise the game of golf… first there was insert technology… then came 2-Ball… now it’s time to welcome Backstryke.
In designing Backstryke Putters, Odyssey engineers have moved the shaft backward, placing the axis of the shaft point as close as possible to the putter head’s centre of gravity. This in-line axis develops what Odyssey design experts call Stroke Balance – a fluid and stable stroke path, promoting better distance control, consistency and accuracy.
The Backstryke uses a Visible Face Alignment feature that allows golfers to clearly see if the face is square to the target line without the shaft impeding the line of sight. This will significantly benefit golfers who struggle with long putts and who also consistently position their existing putter away from the intended target line.
Odyssey’s Forward Press Stabilisation Technology also allows for a hands-forward position without de-lofting the putter head, a common problem when using a forward-press putting style. This results in enhanced stabilisation, a more upward stroke on the golf ball, and a truer roll, more often.
The unique design of the Backstryke gives a forward shaft lean that will help every golfer emulate a style adopted by the game’s greatest putters. This shaft position also aids a stable straight line with the leading arm, preventing wrist-break during the stroke.
The Backstryke is available is three head designs, 2-Ball, Blade and Marxman, and features a White Ice multi-layer insert that has been fine-tuned to enhance responsiveness and consistency. The face surface has also been roughened to enhance the sound at impact with softer golf balls.
The Backstryke is already talk of the Tour, and is being used by Callaway Staff Professionals, including England’s Oliver Wilson and Thomas Bjorn of Denmark.
Thomas said: “The Backstryke was an immediate hit for me. I immediately felt I could improve my putting stroke because the design of the head and shaft promotes an ideal putting position which I can maintain throughout my stroke.”
Neil Howie, President of Callaway Golf Europe, Middle East and Africa, commented: “Odyssey has firmly positioned itself as a company that sets the design agenda for putters. Backstryke, without doubt, will offer every level of player a better putting stroke, whether you’re a game improver or a Tour professional.”
Backstryke Information
Feature 1 : Visible Face Alignment
Advantage: Allows the golfer to clearly see if the face is square to the target line without the shaft impeding the line of sight.
Benefit: Provides an unprecedented visual aid in lining up putts to the target line for precision accuracy.
Feature 2 : Forward Press Stabilisation
Advantage: Hands forward position without de-lofting promotes an upward stroke into the ball. The shaft position also helps create a stable, straight line with the leading arm so the wrists are less likely to break down during the stroke.
Benefit: An ascending stroke imparts top-spin faster, generating true roll. The position of the hands also encourages a longer and lower follow-through for better consistency.
Feature 3: Stroke Balance
Advantage: A putter balanced on the axis of the putting stroke.
Benefit: Promotes a fluid, stable stroke path that’s more consistent, accurate and leads to better distance control.
