Best Super Game Improvement Irons of 2020

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 06 Feb 2020

Unquestionably the most fun clubs you can hit, Super Game Improvement Irons represent an emerging category that have been created to make the game easier for higher handicap golfers. While these may not suit better and more skilled players, for those of us who could do with that little bit extra help, the design and technology within these models is ideal. Golfshake's Ryan Rastall has enjoyed testing and reviewing them for us, and shares his thoughts in detail.

Trying them out in his Performance Centre at Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds, Ryan provides an informed assessment to direct you towards the right clubs for your game.

Wilson Launch Pad

Wilson's new Launch Pad has been designed with the higher handicap golfer in mind. The head of the Launch Pad irons takes advantage of a wide, progressive sole that has been designed to improve the ball launch for golfers who need it. Additionally, this technology prevents the sole from digging into the turf before impact. A late-breaking bounce angle keeps the leading edge up through ground interaction to allow for a more consistent strike.

PING G710

Succeeding the G700, renowned manufacturer PING has launched its new G710 Irons, which are reputed to be the longest and easiest to hit that the brand has released to date. These clubs possess a stainless steel body to create metal-wood like flexing, faster ball speeds, added distance and higher shots with stopping power and an improved feel and sound.

Callaway MAVRIK MAX

Part of Callaway's newFamily of Golf Clubs, the MAVRIK MAX Irons live up to that moniker in representing a groundbreaking move for Callaway, who have used Artificial Intelligence for the first time in an iron. These feature a new Flash Face Cup with A.I. to create a sophisticated face architecture for every loft. By implementing a different Flash Face for each iron, Callaway has boosted ball speed and increased spin robustness across the set.

Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo

The new Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo follows the current trend for the hybrid style design in irons. With the hollow design and HiBore Crown, these models aim to provide forgiveness and trajectory throughout the set and will help golfers who struggle to get the ball up in the air.

COBRA T-Rail

Cobra Golf's T-RAIL (Transitional Rail) is an iron-hybrid set that brings together the forgiveness of a Baffler hybrid with an iron. These boast a fused, hollow, hybrid shape with an iron face and topline, creating an iron-hybrid design that delivers the perfect blend of distance, forgiveness and accuracy. A hollow body construction creates a lower, deeper CG than traditional cavity-back iron designs allow and makes getting the ball airborne and on the desired target line easier than ever before.
