London Golf Club Attracts Stars to Staysure Tour Event

By: | Thu 01 Aug 2019

The London Golf Club is hosting this week's Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, one of the most prestigious events on the over-50s circuit, with this acclaimed venue being home of the tournament last year, and past host of the 2008 and 2009 European Open and 2014 World Matchplay Championship.

Staysure are once again supporting Prostate Cancer UK as their charity of choice, with ticket proceeds going directly to this important cause, which you can learn more about on Golfshake

For those in attendance in Kent, it's a great way to spend time watching some of the greats of the European game up close and personal while raising money for charity. The field includes Ryder Cup stars, major champions, and many of my own golfing heroes through the years.

Among them, European Tour legend Colin Montgomerie headlines the field alongside 2014 captain Paul McGinley, while past winners of the U.S. Open and PGA Championship Michael Campbell and Shaun Micheel are fresh additions to the senior tour. The likes of Phillip Price, Jarmo Sandelin, Barry Lane, Thomas Levet and Peter Baker add considerable experience.

Due to the undulations of the International Course and its clever initial design by Jack Nicklaus and his team, there are some fantastic vantage points from which to spectate. Given the nature of these stars they are also really receptive to interaction with the fans. This is a day for the whole family and if the weather is kind, as forecast, it should be a great event.

Excitingly, I am playing in the pro-am alongside Price and Sandelin, which is a thrill. The tees were marked out and most are off the Blues. The course will be around the 7,000-yard mark. There are some fairways that I cannot see well enough to view, never mind carry the ball that far!
