Galvin Green Archie Waterproof Jacket Review

REVIEW: Galvin Green Archie Waterproof Jacket

By: | Tue 16 Jul 2019

Galvin Green’s ‘Archie’ jacket is part of their new carbon-inspired collection, which brings together a distinctive, technical look with subtle patterns for golfers who are looking for stylish apparel for the winter.

“The CARBON Series is a special line of premium clothing that’s perfectly interchangeable and designed to appeal to golfers who may be new to Galvin Green, as well as many loyal supporters of our Multi-Layer Concept,” said Brand Manager Nicholai Stein.

All we needed, was some torrential weather to give the Archie a thorough test. Thankfully, we live in the UK so this part of the test was not a problem!

LOOKS

If you’re familiar with the Galvin Green brand, you’ll know that they make very good looking garments, and the Archie jacket is no exception. It really does ooze style, even if your golf game doesn’t!

The carbon black colour is very stylish, and the fit for me was fantastic. I was very much a fan of the grey ‘technical’ areas which add a really nice contrast.

FEEL

This could be one of the finest jackets the guys at Galvin Green have produced. They have really thought about how a golfer needs to move out on the course, and incorporated this into the technology of the jacket.

The gore-tex super stretch inserts on the elbows and shoulders give you some super flexibility throughout the golf swing. And don’t worry about getting too hot as the 3-layer construction makes the Archie as breathable as it is durable.

Finally, the sleeves have touch & close adjustments and there are width adjustors on chest and collars to ensure a perfect fit.

PERFORMANCE

Now for the part you really care about, how does the Archie perform. I tested this jacket across multiple rounds in some pretty brutal Yorkshire conditions, and it was nothing short of brilliant.

On the course, the Archie’s gore-tex technology is some of the most waterproof on the market. Add to that waterproof zips and pockets and you have a golf jacket that will

you perfectly dry, whatever the weather decides to throw at you.

The gore-tex super stretch inserts on the elbows and shoulders really do add some fantastic flexibility too, without any compromise on the waterproof performance.

SUMMARY

The Archie is the REAL DEAL. If you’re the kind of golfer that wants to play in all conditions, then this is certainly a jacket to consider. What Galvin Green have done, very cleverly, is deliver a jacket with supreme protection against the elements, but also one that does not restrict you during the golf swing.

The only thing that may put some people off will be the price point. It is at the top end of the waterproof market with an RRP of £460, but for that, you are getting a lot of jacket.

Galvin Green IS a premium brand, and with it comes a very premium jacket.

RATING 9/10
