Costa Daurada’s Popularity Continues to Rise

By: Golfshake Editor | Fri 14 Sep 2018

Costa Daurada has become an increasingly popular destination for golfers, with that draw intensifying with the number of green fees sold now five times greater when compared with half a decade ago.

Contributing to the overall boost in green fees was a substantial increase in golfers from Nordic countries, looking to extend their own golfing seasons, notably with bookings in early Spring and late Autumn. The region experiences average highs of 29°c throughout September with the longevity of the warm weather affording golfers the opportunity to make the most of the late-season sunshine as parts of Western and Northern Europe begin to cool down.

With Spain hosting 35% of all oversees European golf trips in 2018, Costa Daurada has continued to stand out, attracting those looking to experience the area’s incredible gastronomy, wine tasting, and off-course excursions. The region has also become immensely popular with those looking to play golf during family vacations, given the proximity of courses in the area to key family attractions, such as PortAventura and Ferrari Land.

Marta Farrero, Costa Daurada Tourism Board Director said: “It is fantastic news that the number of golfers from around Europe that are visiting Costa Daurada has increased so significantly in the past five years. I’m sure that the areas’ attractions, which are so wonderfully diverse, will continue to accommodate and entertain the growing number of golfing holiday makers for years to come”.

September promises to be another exciting month for golfers with Costa Daurada Golf Club’s ‘Catalunya Cup’ held on 16th September. Whilst in the area, competitors can enjoy the Santa Tecla Town Festival, the region’s biggest festival. Held in honour of its co-patron saint, St Thecla, the spectacle serves as an explosion of joy, music and colour that fills the streets of the town. Appropriately, Costa Daurada Golf Club will also host its second Ladies Open in celebration of St Thecla on 25th September.

Along the coast, Lumine Mediterránea Beach Club & Golf Community is set to host the sixth round of the Segura Viudas 2018, a six-round competition held across the destination’s two golf courses Lumine Hills and Lumine Lakes. The conclusion of this event comes as the course again looks forward to hosting the European Tour Q-School final stage in November.
