The Carrick at De Vere Cameron House hosts PGA Cup

By: Golf Shake | Wed 07 Oct 2009

The US retain the 24th PGA Cup at the Carrick against a stunning backdrop, enjoying a picturesque setting and immaculate course on the banks of Loch Lomond.

De Vere’s stunning Carrick on Loch Lomond golf course played the perfect host to the 24th PGA Cup matches, despite the hosts not being able to reclaim the Llandudno Trophy. The picturesque finishing holes at The Carrick meander alongside the loch-side, and saw a flurry of action on Sunday afternoon as nine of the ten singles matches went to the seventeenth or eighteenth hole. Despite the closeness of so many matches, the GB&I team were eventually outplayed in Sunday’s single matches recording 1½ points from ten available, as the US recorded an overall 17½ -8½ victory.

Following his teams emphatic victory, U.S. Team Captain Brian Whitcomb, commented, “All the players have been really impressed with the course, and just as impressed with the stunning scenery surrounding it. It’s an interesting course, all there in front of you, and my players have really enjoyed the pot bunkers! It’s a good test and we have enjoyed rising to it. The final score is not indicative of how close the matches were, ask anyone of our players that prevailed today.”

As well as enjoying the Carrick golf course, both teams were also treated to the luxury 5-star hospitality and accommodation at Cameron House hotel. Including a state-of-the-art fitness suite and luxury spa, as well as relaxing lounges and a variety of dining options, the baronial mansion hotel was the perfect place for the teams to relax with their partners after playing golf.

Will Barnes from Garstang Golf & Country Club was playing his first PGA Cup at The Carrick, and although the result was disappointing, his first PGA Cup experience has been a special occasion, “This has been a great experience and it has been wonderful to be a part of it all. The hotel is fantastic and I’d definitely recommend The Carrick to my members. The resort is first class and the staff have been so helpful looking after everything we need; the hospitality has been great.”

The 24th PGA Cup Matches took place over the Doug Carrick designed course at De Vere Cameron House resort , which opened in 2007 and has welcomed world class competition in the form of the Ladies Scottish Open on the Ladies European Tour in 2007 and 2008. The course meanders between the lowland banks of the famous loch and the undulating highland heath; all of which offers stunning views and a stern test to players of all abilities.
