Cure for the SH**KS

Posted by: user16106 | Thu 19th Jan 2012 20:58 | Last Reply

I get the SHKS now and again and always thought my problem was my swing was returning with an outward movement causing the hosel to hit the ball. I have since however read another cause that is as follows. Your weight  is being transfered forward to your toes on your striking part of your swing thus moving your body/ hands a tad nearer the ball resulting in the dreaded SHK. I havnt yet played with the knowledge of the later error /cure. Cure is to focus on weight being stable over your laces. Has anyone heard of this, tried it?

Ian I have got a fairly wide stance. A bit more  that the shoulder width. Why would this work?

Dave, my solution was to take the club away on the inside more than I was which helped get the club on the correct swing plane. This was with the help of my coach. If it becomes a real problem then I would get some help as the armitages can be a killer.

I had them about 4 months ago to the point it was almost every shot.  I was frightened to go out for a game.  Literally.  Had a lesson and it wasn't any one thing, it was four or five little things that had come together in a disaster

Dave, I used to suffer from these (and sometimes still do if I'm not concentrating). I've said it before and there's no harm in repeating: it's said that they are 'near perfect' shots but for me that's no consolation when it happens. I tried all sorts of methods but the one that stuck was about weight. I read if you kept your weight on the heels and never ventured onto the balls of you feet ie the toe end then your on your way. It worked and was such a relief. Like Chri mentioned it genuinely is frightening and causes genuine anxiety but only those who have experienced extended periods of them will truly understand.  Sh***s on a tight course will ruin a card. Try this method and watch the dreaded MF's become a distant memory. Good luck.

I will try the stable weight on ones feet first and see how it goes tomorrow. If I do a full round without an "armitage" as JF said Something has worked. Will update W/E.

Update---- I played in a society today, Was very concious of the weight on my feet. Tried to concentrate on the weight being on the middle to the heel of my foot rather than towards the toe area. Didnt feel very comfortable. Did not have one sh**k today. Maybe it was just the fact I was focused or maybe the weight thing worked. IT WORKED. I won the society with 41pts ( sorry JP ) played out of my skin. 9 pars, nothing worse that double bogie, no blobs. Cheers for the advice.
