New set of irons

Posted by: user60596 | Thu 2nd Aug 2007 15:51 | Last Reply

Hey guys,

Im looking to purchase a new, decent set of irons as i have had my last set since i was about 15 (only 20 now)  I have saved up a good amount and believe i will keep them for a number of years so its worth buying a top quality set.

The set i have my eye on are Callaway X-20's, having read reviews and studied them first hand.  I play off 18 and would like to know your opinions on these or recommendations for other irons - i have heard that Ping and Taylor made would also suit me well.

An alternative is to go for custom built clubs like mine.  Use the same castings for heads as all the major brands (mine are the same as Taylor made XD's but without the logo, they're all made in the same factory in China anyway), have a huge choice of shafts to suit stiffness and length for different clubs and any grips you want.  Mine were built by Mel at designergolf and cost £385 the lot.  Cheaper than most decent sets, you just don't pay for the marketing budget and a top pro to advertise them!
