36 Hole Season Starter - IMPORTANT, DATE HAS CHANGED!!
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN DATE

Due to lots of requests to come over to my club (Minchinhampton) to play, I'm considering setting up a friendly Season Starter to play 36 holes (18 on each course). I have spoken to the club and they have said we can do this but have requested it is done on a Monday as this will allow us to play as a four-ball on each course (one is normally reserved for 2 ball only on any given day). The price would be 40 and would include: -
- 18 holes on Avening/Cherington course
- Soup and a sandwich for lunch
- 18 holes on Cherington/Avening course (whichever we didn't play in the morning)
I am suggesting Monday 26th March with an 9:30 start. I have checked how much daylight we would have and this would give us plenty of time to get around with an hour break for lunch. There is course maintenance planned for the following few weeks (hollow tining and top dressing) which I why I have not suggested later.
I have set up a comp (see link below) to get an idea of the level of interest. If you'd like to play can you put your name down on the comp so I can see if it's worth making the arrangements with the club

Very tempting way to start the season, please keep me posted and I'll try to keep the date clear. Website is very inviting!

Well it appears there is enough interest in this for me to set something up with the club. I'll get everything arranged and then leave all the promotion to Darren. He has the connections

I start a new job that day so it wouldnt be a good idea for me to ask for my first day off to play golf. Gutted that I can't play as I would love to come. Maybe later in the year for me....please!!!

IMPORTANT UPDATE - THE DATE HAS NOW CHANGED TO MONDAY 26TH MARCH
At the request of the club, the date has been changed. This works mostly in our favour
- First tee off will now be 9:30am, helping those who have to travel
- This is the day after the clocks go forward, so sunset on the day of play is 7:25pm. This takes some of the time pressure off
- First tee time in the afternoon will be approx 2:00pm
- We are likely to play as 3 ball groups to help with pace of play
I will have more complete detail tomorrow after I have been to the club. Apologies if the date change has caused anyone any problems

Great date change Chris. Looks like the clocks change on the 25th and it's light until about 19:30 so plenty of time to fit the 2 rounds in.

I wish I hadn't mentioned it! My golf society has its AGM event at Guildford that day so I'll be expected to attend that. If I can get out of it I'll let you know.

First of all apologies for confusing you all with the date error yesterday. The date of the comp is Monday 26th March 2012. I can confirm that that comp is now confirmed with the club with the following key details: -
- Date - Monday 26th March 2012
- Tea/coffee and bacon roll on arrival (from 8:30am)
- First tee off for first 18 holes - 9:30am
- Soup and sandwich for lunch (rolling as groups finish)
- First tee off for second 18 holes - 2:00pm (TBC)
- Prize giving 15 minutes after last group finish
- Cost - £40
- Forma t- Stableford played in 3 ball groups
- Max number of players - 30
- Closing date for entry - 4th March 2012
I will be putting further information onto the competition page over the weekend. We have to confirm numbers by no later than 3 weeks before so if your name is not down by 4th March you will only be playing if someone drops out. I'll be communicating how to pay some time next week.
