Posted by: user437159 | Wed 4th Jan 2012 14:35 | Last Reply

i have played quite a bit this week and each time i play i keep noticing - on bad strikes - a strong hook coming into my game. this puzzles me as my miss with the driver is a slice ( not so much any more) so can anyone help me? i have recently widened my stance and tried to hit down on the ball more..

Liam you must be hitting the ball on the outside causing side spin. Check you alignment and that the leading edge of the club is pointing skyward on your backswing when the shaft is paralell to the ground and make sure you finish the shot.

Hi Liam, I started this a while ago quite badly. I found that my club swing arc'd around my body and the ball mimicked this.

To stop this I now concentrate my back swing further away from my body and then create a straighter swing. (The hook was worse the longer the iron!)

I now figured I can draw the ball if I revert back to the old hook swing.

If I reverse the arc and take the club back really far (away)  from my body I find I can fade the ball instead. I guess this is how pro’s draw and fade that ball. This helped me understand the draw and fade by trying to correct my hook!

Try thinking how you hit a tennis ball with top spin (draw) and slice (fade) and the swing shape you create. It is similar with the golf swing.

I have never had lessons. I just keep watching how pro’s hit the ball and try to copy them.

Hope this helps. It is a little difficult to explain!
