Highlight of 2011

Hi all,

Would appreciate if anyone would like to share their golfing highs and lows of 2011, and their targets for 2012.

Highs

  • Scoring a PB of 80
  • Attaining my target playing handicap of 14 (although my club handicap is still 16.0 but that is due to not being adjusted for general play yet)
  • Finding a club that I feel right at and enjoy playing every week after moving to a new area
  • Feeling like I have improved as a player from last year.  I know this as I'm annoyed with with shots I would have been happy with 12 months ago

Lows

  • I had a period about three months ago when my game suddenly broke when I had been playing consistently and pretty well.  I got the shanks/fats/slices/pushes so bad I was shooting 100+ every round and I didn't want to play.  I was actually scared of going out because I knew what would happen.  I did the sensible thing and saw the club pro for lessons and he rebult me.  I had a period of six weeks or so, including a couple of weeks after the first lesson, when I was like a beginner again.  I've come out of it the other side with a better swing and a better player, but it's the only time I've been so low with my game I wanted to stay away from the course

Aims for 2012

  • Shoot a new PB.  That will mean breaking 80 for the first time
  • Get my GS handicap down to ¾ of what it is now (10.5)
  • Get my putting average down to 34 max for the year
  • Play in at least half of the Monthly Medals at my club.  I haven't played in any yet

Chris,

Don't expect miracles. If you've not played any medal rounds yet then your in for a baptism of fire. There's nothing as scary (& rewarding) than standing over every shot knowing it could make or break your round.

A lot different to playing social rounds on your own (& from the yellow tees). I wish you all the luck for 2012 & hope you acheive what you want.

Highs

  • Enjoying the game again after a horrid start to the year & seeing my hcap rise to 16.
  • Changing coaches which has transformed my swing & game.
  • Getting my handicap down to an all time low, especially as the last cut came from winning my division in the monthly stableford comp at my new club.

Lows

  • Having to leave my old club due to financial reasons.
  • Developing the shanks at the start of the year.

Aim for 2012

  • I'm aiming to get to single figures but I'm joining a new club in March so I'm expecting to either stay the same or slightly increase whilst I adjust to the new course for a while.
  • Progress to the finals of a few comps.
  • Increase my distance of the tee

John,

I always play of the whites unless told otherwise.  I also play against a work colleague every week who plays off a very steady 14 and we play stroke play so I am getting used to needing to avoid card wrecker holes.

I don't expect to win any of the medal games, or even challenge for the win in 2012, but I know that if I want to be the best golfer I can be I need to play in those games where consistent good play is needed to compete.  I've decided that has to start from next year

Chris, if you can play to par in a medal you will have a good chance of winning. Looking forward to coming to play your place in 2012.

Not many golfing highs of 2011

got three birdies in one round, drove a 300yd par 4 (made birdie ) Driving has improved a bit, bit longer and a bit straighter.

lows are handicap went out by 2 strokes from 15.5 to 17.5. Played with some blades, seemed to be getting better but played last week and didnt hit one good iron shot all day, (litterally none ). Driving and putting were ok so came away with 28pts.

AIMS for 2012. hope to start hitting my irons to a good standard, happy with driving and putting but an improvement is always welcome. Also am aiming to join a club. Want my handicap back down to 14-15.

Dave CAC handed Geordie.
