handicaps.

Posted by: user437159 | Sun 4th Dec 2011 11:08 | Last Reply

i have been stuck on 23 (club handicap) for 4 months now. i shud in all fairness be off about 18. but recently the man who does the junior handicaps ( i dont know the job title) has given up. i have played in 15 comps this year - most scoring under par or one or two over.. is there anyway, if someone marks my card i can hand in 3 new cards and get my handicap reset? is this possible?

i read a blog recently called Novice2Scratch - he handed in several cards, all ready have a handicap on 18, so is it possible i can too? please help - its really annoying me! thanks in advance

Liam,

It all depends on how your Club looks at 'Winter Golf' and the awful words "non qualifier".

From Nov 1st through to 31st March many Clubs go into winter mode. That is 'preferred lies & forward tees so no handicap changes.

Also Hcp's are set using a strange system that is based on CCS, not SSS so in some cases you may shoot -1 nett and get 0.1 back.

Sorry I can't be of anymore help.

Wow only 12 and playing off 23 but should be off 18. Really good for your age. Just keep going and you will eventually get down to scratch.

Once a Junior reaches a handicap of 28 or lower, the handicap is adjusted in the same way as adult handicaps.

When you say your Junior Organiser has "given up", I assume you mean he no longer organises coaching and competitions for Juniors. If, however, you have continued to play in qualifiers, then your scores will be actioned on your handicap record in the same way as all other competitors.

Having achieved a handicap of 23, you cannot submit a fresh 3 cards for a new handicap.

Why do you think you should be off 18?

Were all 15 comps you played in qualifiers?

You should be able to have a look at your handicap record to see what has happened to your handicap in competitions. If your club uses Club2000 or Handicapmaster for their handicaps, then you should be able to see your handicap record on Howdido or Masterscoreboard. If not, you may have to ask someone on your committee.

i believe i shoud be off 18 because my average competition score is 18 over. when i say'given up' he since about june has not made any change to any of our handicaps. i know plently of golfers in the junior section who should be higher or lower. For example, i have a friend who has achieved a handicap of 20, yet averages 34 over

You should be able to put in as many general play cards as you want if they are marked and signed by another member. Probably not during winter though. So next year if you play regularly below your handicap, it should come down quickly .

Adrian

Don't confuse the young man! I assume you meant Supplementaries and not general play cards.

Yes supplemenary cards , played under competition conditions I think the limit is 10 per year but I'm not certain. You also need to tell your playing partener / marker, before you start.
