First green fee, first annual sub.
Just been flicking through an old diary... it must be an age thing.
My first green fee was two shillings, and my first annual subscription was £3 - Edit; the joining fee this year is 3k Euro.
And getting to the golf club involved 2 buses, which wasn't too difficult with a pencil bag that had a 2 wood, 3,5,7,9 irons (all blades) and a putter + about 4 or 5 balls. No tees - it was either find one or use some sand out of the tee box..

Would that be the equivilent to say £375 in todays money Brian?? I believe half sets were quite common back in the day? I to started with a half set they were SH ping eye 2's and had never heard of Ping at the time.(mostly slazenger and dunlop) I soon upgraded to a full set of ping eye 2's sw-2 and a 7,5,3,& 1 woods which i still own.

£3 was a junior sub in 1968. According to Wiki the average wage then was £12. The average wage now is £27k. I guess that means golf is more affordable now than back then.
My set was a Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge. There's a full set on Ebay now for $59.99...... how the 'ell did I hit the ball, small ball, with them!

I think my first Green-fee was 1s/9d and my Subs £3. My next door neighbour gave me a half set to start with and I quickly got some Walter Hagen Alloy shafts.

Dave, you're so gonna get a pasting when you get up here,http://www.golfshake.com/scripts/ckeditor362/plugins/smiley/images/angry_smile.gif" title="angry" width="20" /> they're similar but the sole on mine seemed thinner.
Talking of going back to blades I'm fighting the urge to buy a set of Titliest MB's but I think I may weaken. My lad got the Nike Pro Combo's in the summer and I must admit they're an improvement on my Ping S57's and it set me thinking about returning to full on blades... must not weeeaaakkken

I've got Titleist CB's Brian and they are fantastic. They go really well with KBS Tour shafts too. I'm neither good enough nor brave enough to go for the MB's

Ah, the pro combos .I had bought Nikes Pro combos when they first introduced them and they took 5 shots off my hcp in one season , loved them and still own them.
Brian, If you want to try a set of blades for a while I have a choice of 2 sets you can loan out of my collection. Maruman 31ex's 1 iron to SW with R400 shafts (golf porn) or TW 2004 Nike's with KBS tour stiff soft stepped (plays firm) 3-PW .Let me know I'll send them up to you.

Artisan member at St' Georges Hill 1963 for the princely sum of £2 per annum.
Member Clevedon Golf Club 1964 £12 per annum (This was a weeks wages, so golf is far more expensive now)

I've got a set of pro combo's as well (Dave Ley talked me into them) & everytime I go in the garage I can hear them calling me to put them back in the bag!
