A Frustrating Game

Posted by: user9137 | Fri 27th Jul 2007 06:29 | Last Reply

At the moment Im finding this game so frustrating. Im playing to my 15 handicap and over my last 3 rounds have had only 1 double bogey. The problem is an inability to get up and down from just off the green. 50% of my drives go down the middle, my 2nd & 3rd shots then end up within 10yds of the green. I then take 3 more shots to get down. If only I had a decent short game I might even have a single figure handicap. Oh well there`s always this weekend to dream!!!

Depending on the lie either a sand wedge or an 8 iron. I`m unable to get the ball really close to the hole. I usually end up 6-8 feet from the pin and then take 2 putts to get down. Consistent golf but frustrating as I feel that I should be doing a lot better.

I suspect that you are right - Ive always thought of myself as being a decent putter, but obviously to take my game onto the next level Im going to have to improve on this part of my game.

As Paul said, if you are getting as close as 6-8 feet every time then the problem is your putting or the quality of the greens.

From 10yds though, you should be able to get closer than what you are doing, is it direction or distance that is the problem, meaning are you 8ft wide, short or long.

I would'nt blame your putting, even the pro's success rate from 6-8ft is'nt as good as we might think it should be.

To get up and down,i think, you have to be looking at getting inside 4ft with the chip.

Thanks everyone for your input - as Im not playing this weekend Im off to the driving range to practice my chipping. As a result of your answers Ive realised that Im just not judging my distances properly - hence the need for practice. I`ll let you know the result after my weekly fourball on Wednesday
