Seen another post recently that mentioned insurance and it got me thinking.Who do others use for insurance? I get all the flyers in the mags that offer free gifts and rounds ect but wondered if it was actually worth doing for the actual cover itself?Who would you recommend?Cheers guys.

Insurance is not going to stop you getting hurt on a golf course. I would suggest that the money would be better spent on a megaphone and crash helmet.

I have Golfplan.  Covers all my gear new for old at home, on the course and when travelling.  Also gives me legal cover.  I've hit two people so far and not been sued, but you never know

It was meant to be show that you never know what can happen on the course, but I can see now it looks a little ropey.  Nowhere is safe

I have home insurance, covers damage to the kit anywhere other than when in use. New for old upto £50,000 at home and £5,000 away from home. My policy also covers public liability. Get the right policy and dont waste your cash on golf cover.

Harsh Mr Flood, but quite fair at the moment.  My two golfer striking incidents were: -

  • A slightly pulled mid-iron to lay up at Hilltop GC on the first after duffing my tee shot.  After the ball left the club, someone from the 10th (which runs parallel) came out of the trees walking away from me looking for their slice.  I shouted fore, he kept walking.  The ball bounced twice before it struck him between the shoulder blades.  He turned and glared at me, I gave him the wide arms 'what the hell are you doing there?' gesture and he carried on walking
  • Second green of the PGA National at The Belfry.  A senior who admitted he was used you playing by himself and his wife who was keeping him company as usual (and had awful etiquette) joined up with me and Paul Williams after we offered.  I was through the back of the green in deep rough and when playing on thinned the ball at hip height across the green rather hard.  Said senior had decided he would walk across my line just beyond the flag to check out his line at just this point.  My ball stopped when it hit him on the arse, causing a squeal and limping.  Cue guilt and apologies.  He took the blame, saying he shouldn't have walked across my line and was very good about it.  His wife spent the whole round talking loudly as I went into my backswing and walking across my putting line as revenge
  • I've been fortunate that my two 'strikes' have not caused major injury and whilst my shot was not the best the person struck has been somewhere they shouldn't be.  On a crowded course, especially one with less experienced golfers, there is always the possibility that someone is where they shouldn't be.  If that person is hit and sees an opportunity to make some money out of the incident (an unfortunate American import) then I would rather have the insurance

    Chris,

You should some & play my new course on the 1st you have to look out for shot coming up the 2nd, up the 18th & down the 17th. Same when playing the 2nd

On the 3rd you have to look out for shots from the 4th, 13th, 14th. Not trying to put you off but on our 2nd outing out me & Dave asked the pro where our helmets were!!
