Using a driver

Posted by: user60905 | Wed 11th Jul 2007 08:53 | Last Reply

Been playing a lot lately and have hit a couple of 93s on SSS 67, so my confidence is improving.  I'm aiming to play consistently to a 28, so that I can join a club with my son (12) and play more regularly.  I've given myself a year to do it

I never use a driver as I'm never quite sure where the ball will end up - normally it's about 45 degrees to the right of my target although I have been known to hook it viciously and occassionally, very occasionally hit it 200 yards plus straight down the middle

It is the very occasional blinding drive that I like to cling onto

So I went to the range in search of a driver.  Hoping to find the elusive club that will straighten me out so to speak.  I've been reading that a higher degree of loft maybe useful for a high handicapper.  Not wanting to spend a absolute fortune I tried a couple of John Letters drivers and a couple of Adams Insight BUL 5000

Couldn't get on with either of the John Letters clubs.  Did a bit better with the 15 degree Adams (£199) and little bit better still with the Adams 12.5 degree version (£199).  But, I was only hitting the ball 200 yards and was still hitting out to the right more often than not

Does anyone have any advice on how I can correct this or a driver that is specifically designed for this.  I have a tendancy to hit out to the right with all my clubs - it's not a slice, more of a push out to the right, which suggests that the clubhead is not square at impact - but I don't know how to correct it.

Any advice gratefully received

Cheers, Tony

I see you are playing well, David, keep it up.

Tony can you access the site David's provided ?  It might be that if you are within a work environment they block certain sites being the smiley one, this would be why you can see the photo and smilies because they are hosted here but not the animated smilies because they are being linked to on an external website which your work my block.

Regards,

Darren.
