Young Golfer

Was at the range today and over heard the club pro talking to a dad with a 5 year old son who was R11 obsessed.The dad was basically asking about getting him the R11 irons and if they would be suitable and beneficial. 

What are your thought is it too young to be spending a fortune on golfing equipment when he might lose interest in the game??? 

Its the father's choice how he brings up his son. If I won the lottery my children could have whatever they wanted as long as it wasn't ridiculous like a small country.
