choosing the right gap wedge

Posted by: user283178 | Fri 7th Oct 2011 11:53 | Last Reply

It is time that i acquired myself a gap wedge between my pw (48) & sw (56-14* bounce)

My sw is not suited to pitch shots off tight lies and firm fairways.

I am leaning towards a 52* with 6* or 8* max bounce.  How many wedges out there fit this requirement.

I just don't know whether to go for a quality brand 2nd hand or cheap new.  Distance is going to be the key.  max budget of £20.

So, what distance would i be expecting from full and 3/4 shots with a quality brand, and are there big differences in distances between the likes of Mizuno-TM-Titleist-Wilson-Nike and a few others.  And do the cheaper wedges hit similar distances.

I expect to be changing my clubs in the next 2 years if possible, and i would then be hoping to know which wedges i need.

I am not looking for high spinning wedges as any new wedge needs to compliment my present wedges and i prefer the balls to land and roll out as that is good enough for me.  I hit very few full pitch shots with my wedges

I have a couple of taylormade wedges and I love them. This is what I would look for but maybe you would prefer more cavity back on a gap wedge. I hit my 54 degree wedge 80 yards ish. so this should be around 90 -100 yards. but Your swing is probably not the same as mine.

Maybe it will go cheap and you could get a bargain.

Colin , take a look at this 130583500876   ebay Its a cleveland 588 53*  there's a reason why the 588 is the most copied wedge out there, If looking for new take a look at the MD's or Snakeyes ( forged) fantastic wedges and defo underated with budget pricing, Good luck.

Colin

Im in the same situation as you. I have a Cleveland CG16 56* with a 14* bounce and I love it (from bunkers and fairways)

Distance wise I will, from time to time, stand over a shot knowing that Im right inbetween that and my PW (48)

Im looking at a CG16 52, they are about £80 new (which I dont want to pay) so keeping my eye out on ebay constantly. I'll let you know if amnything comes up.
