I played Hazel Grove last month . Very nice !!! I've never been asked for a handicap from any course except when playing in a competition.

Poulton Park in Warrington is ok for £15. It's tight, 9 holes but 2 sets of tees. I've played Sherdley Park in St Helens today - fantastic course, accessible from the east lancs or 62

Not sure whereabouts this is in relation to "south of Manchester", but I think it is in the vicinity anyway.

Try Chorlton-Cum-Hardy. I played it while visiting my brother a month or so ago and it's a wonderful course at a bargain price. I think it is something like £17.50 midweek and £22.50 at W/E's.

The only thing to watch out for is that the 9th tee (I think is) is tricky to find, and the unsuspecting amongst us (okay, I mean me) could easily be fooled into playing the 14th by mistake!
