Iron Recomendations
Guys (& girls),
I feel like Christmas has come early. My house & garage was flooded last week & ALL of my golf equipment was submerged under water for over an hour, this included
- 3 golf bags
- 3 pairs of shoes
- powakaddy trolley
- taylormade rac OS irons & wedges
- pro-quip rain suit
- Driver, 3 wood & 5 wood
& the good news....... the insurance people have agreed to replace everything
What I'm after is some recommendations for a new set of irons, I really liked the RAC OS & they bought my handicap down from 23 to 13.8 but I feel with all the new technology around & what with prices as cheap as they are I could get a set which will help get my handicap down even further.
I like the look of the Taylormade R7's & the Ping G5's but I would love to hear about any others.
Thanks,
John.

If one is serious about the game, then custom fir is the only way to go as anything off the shelf, has to be a compromise on one facet of the game or another.

David - I suppose I should have mentioned I am a lefty, I am assuming that your clubs are right handed?
John - Totally agree, my current set were custom fitted & I wouldn't buy another set without doing the same.
Wayne,
To put things into perspective the water that flooded our house came from overflowing drains so you can imagine the kind of things & smell that were associated with this. Because of this & health & safety concerns the insurance company told us to remove anything affected by the water to outside as long as we didn't disposeo of it until the claims assessor had seen it. This went for clothing, carpets & furnishings etc
I also had a letter from a well know golfing retailing store to inform the insurance company that my clubs will start to rust & that they would also have taken water into the shafts & that will also cause rusting. As for graphite clubs they said that the water may have broken the glue down & the clubs could start to rattle.
As for my trolley I don't suppose being submerged under 2 foot of water would have done it anygood?
thanks for your comments.
John.

John.
Ive just got myself a new set of Ping G5's. I tested loads of different sets in American Golf but the Pings felt the best out of the lot. I managed to buy some nearly new off Ebay for half the price. Luckily I am a standard lie, so not a problem there.
I played my first round with my new Pings last Saturday and they were fantastic, I was surprised just how much more confidence they gave me after only 1 round. Things can only get better as I get used to the different distances and flight.

Go and get some custom built ones, all the heads are made by the one of three chinese factories anyway. You can then get the shaft type, flex, length and grips to suit you. You just won't have a brand logo on them (but where I got mine made you can have your own personalised insert if you want) and therefore don't contribute to their marketing budget. Mine clubheads are the same as TaylorMade R7 XD's, the cheapest he did with NS Pro 950GH steel shafts and lovely sticky WinGolf masterwrap grips. They worked out at £39 a club. Cheap. The most expensive he did were £89 a set.
