Sticking with it !
Played Ellesmere Port Municipal yesterday (lovely course but the tee boxes could do with a makeover).
Shot my best ever score of 95 (nett 65) stableford 42 points.
This from shooting a 158 at Bowring Park exactly 12 months ago in my first ever game at the age of 40, i know i'm not going to be Tiger or Rory but the pleasure i got playing that round yesterday was amazing.
I also achieved my 2011 goal by getting under 100 shots for a round, as with any success Guinness always seems to taste better when youve played well so my advice to palyers new to the game is STICK WITH IT! you WILL improve the more you play.
Roll on summer 2011

Is there a problem with anything regarding my score ??

I'm just going off what Golfshake is telling me, i'm new to the game and dont know how handicap's work. i put my score on an i thought it calculated everything for you.Seems to be a lot of cynicism knocking about,on this forum... i wont bother posting next time.

Well said Ivan and well done Colin. There are milestones that everyone who takes this game up need to achieve and the first sub-100 round is just the start, just don't be too disappointed if you're next one isn't, it will come. And then there's the sub-90, then the time when you stop getting two shots on any hole, the time when you stop getting any shots on a hole, then the sub-80....
That's the beauty and total frustration of this game. See Russ Middletons post, a good consistent 13 handicapper and goes and throws in a 102! Happens to all of us.

You're extremely touchy to be taking offence at what was a very innocuous posting. You said yourself that you were new to the game and didn't yet fully understand how handicaps worked. All I was pointing out was that the maximum handicap for men is 28 which didn't tie in with what you were quoting as your score. I also congratulated you on your scoring - breaking 100 is a major milestone.

The other issue as yet not mentioned is to do with possibly being in bandit territory! Can someone with a maximum 28 (or 30 if you like!) handicap, suddenly find a round of 95 gross score? That would have taken the prize money in my Golf Society, and would have been greeted by the rest of the members by a chant of "Cut, Cut, Cut!"

Bob, I understand what you are saying but sometimes people just have the round of their life. It happened to one of our members recently. Playing off a handicap of 11 (no suggestion of being a bandit based on previous competiton history) he went out and shot a gross 69 (2 under). I didn't hear bandit mentioned once - it was just a stunning round which he will probably never repeat in his life.

Well played Colin.
Under 90 by the end of the summer!?

Absolutely right when a player has a complete and current record of his playing ability - there can't possibly be a cry of "bandit" when he's off 11 and can demonstrate how he got there.

Colin, I remember when I broke 100 its the best feeling ever. Only 2 things have come close were my best ever round of 81 and the day I got an eagle.
Well done and it does get easier but coping with the bad shots gets harder.
Dave CAC handed Geordie.

Stick with it and the forums
I have been playing Forest Hill Golf Course in the forest of Dean (great summer deal £99 three months membership)
Have playerd the course 12 times this summer my first round 94 (was cut to 23.5) since then I have struggled to break 100, enjoy the feeling, the flush of success, and the frustration when your HC slowly climbs back up I'm currently 24.5. keep playing keep growing keep enjoying
