Shot of the Open
Having been marshalling on the 2nd hole all week I am now only just catching up with the TV coverage from the BBC.
I was wondering what the Shot of the open was for some of you. I will start with 2 that i saw up close and personal.
1... Phil Mickleson was behind the TV tower to the right of the 2nd fairway approx 120yrds from the green, the tower was obscuring his view of the green so tha R&A referee rightly offered him a free drop. Big Phil declined the drop as he liked the lie and said that he was not going to take the lottery of the drop. So in his words said " I like this lie so instead of the drop I will bend it round the tower" and as i stood behind him with a great view, the same that he had he aimed it 30yrds left of the green and bent it round the tower landing approx 4ft from the pin. Absolutely pure class
2... Bubba Watson tee shot on sunday with a cross wind that become a tail wind at the dog leg, hit the longest tee shot of the week, it came to rest on the edge of the green and was measured at 400yrds which equates to a 1/4 of a mile. what makes this better for me is that for the previous 3 days he had been in the rough down the left hand side.
Now its your turn

I rather enjoyed Dustin Johnsons 2nd shot on the 17th ( I think) of his final round. Shanked it so far right it was OOB! Even though I had him in the GS sweepstake, and at that point he could still have possibly won, if DC had a Bjorn experience. It was really nice to see such an accomplished golfer manage to hit a shot as good as some of mine!

Are you sure that Bubba's drive was the longest? Did Dustin Johnson not drive through the back of a 419 yard par 4 onthe final round?
Shots of the week, either of Clrke's Eagle Putts count? After all without those he would not have been th winner?

It's a funny old world that's for sure. During my day at the Open on the Friday, I saw DC play only one hole. The 3rd where he went slightly right of the green with his approach shot. He then botched his chip shot up onto the green by underhitting it, so that it rolled back down the hill to give him virtually the same shot again. He got it right 2nd time around but still 2 putted to get down.
So at that stage I and I'm sure very many others didn't give him a snowballs chance of ending up with the claret jug, when all the supposed front runners were expected to come to the fore, instead of which most of them ended up having the weekend off! Just goes to show it isn't over until the slightly corpulent golfer sings!
