Which clubs are better

Posted by: user403181 | Wed 6th Jul 2011 14:40 | Last Reply

Hi can anyone help me? I have found myself with two sets of brand new golf clubs. One is a Hippo Hiptec with driver, 3 wood and 4-sw irons and putter. The other is a Dunlop Tour TP11 with driver, 3 wood, hybrid club, 5-sw irons
and putter. Which should I keep?

Thanks in advance

Simon

I'd keep the one you play the best with!

Now that does make it a little harder to judge which ones to sell!

Could you not go to a driving range which has a good quality mat, tape up the face and bottom of the club.

I started off with a set of hippo S200's, at the time they were made hippo were sponsoring the odd player on the lower tours so were propably a little better in quality than todays sets but not much.

I replaced these with a set of Callaway X20's which were £440 compared to the £125 spent on th hippo's. I regreted doing it from the minute I changed the clubs, the Callaway were better but only marginally and definitly not worth the extra £300. In fact the X20's only lasted a matter of months before I sold them on and brought a set of different irons. The new irons were undoubtably better than the hippos but if I would have brought those new they would have been closer to the £600 mark, lukily I got them second hand at  a bargain £225.

When recently struggling with my irons I looked at getting anew set and tried the titleist AP1's and dug out my old hippos to try them. The Hippo's in my opinion were far better than the AP1's and also any other modern game improver club wich all seem dead to me with no feedback or feel.

Unfortunatly I lost 2 of the hippo clubs so only had a half set but did use them for a few rounds to regain my confidence before swithing back to my set.

It will be the woods where a cheap set will fall down so it may be worth selling one set and updateing the woods with the cash, chances are you will eventually change the irons but don't be rushed into doing it just becasue your clubs are abit unfashionable.
