Advice for 3 wood

Hi I am looking to buy a 3 wood in the near future and was just hoping to get some opinions on my stance ie ball in the middle or forward. I would appreciate any comments. I have struggled to use any type of wood in the past and only just feel comfortable with my 5 wood.
