A big difference between the Ryder Cup and the English Open, especially when held at a Crown Golf course in a remote part of the country.

Some years ago a certain Mr Lawrence Batley was persuaded to move his sponsorship from a Northern PGA Event to The European Tour. The cost was estermated and he signed the papers. The Tournament then cost more than he wanted to put in and he didn't return to sponsor NPGA Events. A big loss, and many Northern Pro's blame the greed of the European Tour.
The English Open will cost more than the £2m to put on. It is the Resort who can't see the cost of the Event being within their budget.
