Do I need a matching bag ?

Posted by: user370436 | Sun 27th Mar 2011 20:01 | Last Reply

Just started golf and bought some TM burner irons,

Do I need to get a Taylor made bag or can I get another one,

Think we all know 50% of golf is looking good on the course

So what bag shall i get

No, you do not need a matching bag.  A stand bag will do the job no problems...tour/cart bags will be too heavy unless you get a trolley as well.

MZC, You dont need a matching bag although if you can afford it its nice. I have a complete hotch botch of bag, shoes, woods irons etc and no-ones ever pointed the finger. It wont make you play any worse having matching.

Hmm, so golf is all about posing.  Unfortunately even if you don't look like a tamp you're going to look like a dick hacking out from behind the trees or up to your ankles in mud in a hazard. I've been stuck behind too many people who put their appearance before ability, if you can use the kit it doesn't matter what it looks like.  So, get a brilliant white bag if you want, it's just an easier target to chase you up the fairway with..

Some great words of wisdom but Lewis that last comment is so true.

How many people do you see driving a Ferrari but can they drive it like Schumacher ?

Does it matter though ?  Your money to do what you like with, if it makes you feel better then what's the prob ?  again I liken it to the Porsche analogy above

You mean Ferrari?

I agree if you've got the cash then you can spend it on what you like. I'm not one to talk really as I tend to 'splash out' quite a bit but I've never really been one for making sure all my gear matched. I buy what works for me & if it's a mixture then so be it. Well at least until my sponsorship deal comes through

Wilson Staff make great golf gear & have had more major winners use their stuff than anyone else.

A proper golf brand.

Yes, 99 is a good score for a first round, depending on the course.  Anywhere we know?  Some tricky courses in Essex

Keep in on topic guys and make sure the AUP is adhered to

We operate slightly different to many other forums and have done so for the last 5 years in that we don't allow forum names but keep it social with actual names. Hence keeping a low level of spam, abuse and member goading.

I think Mr Jogan is winding everyone up, he sounds like a fun guy, had me chuckling a few times. [ wouldnt want to play golf with him though]. Maybe he should look for a forum on fashion as he seems more interested in what he looks like than how he plays.

If you're really embarrased about your Nakashimas Steve I'll give you a couple of quid to take them off your hands then you can get yourself a decent set!

I wondered why this forum had so many replies when i saw the title, now i can see why LOL.

All the brands (clothing or clubs) would love it, if they dont get us with one thing its another.

What one person spends on Boss polos another spends on electric carts and another on Sky caddies etc etc.

I am not saying that i dont want the new R11 or a couple of new Lindberg polos, its just that golf is one of the only sports where we feel we can buy success. I have done it too many times myself.

The driver we hit so well with last week hasnt suddenly broken, or the putter we once loved hasnt stopped working. THE PROBLEMS ARE WITH US.

Mzc Jogan you could not spend your money more wisely than on a course of lessons and practise at the range.

Our swings make more difference than any amount of money spent on equipment ( as long as the equipment is newish)

Because our sport is played predominately by affluant middle age men the manufacturers play keeping up with the joneses on all of us.

It seems to be an arms race at times with a few of us and new clubs.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. Spend whatever you want on whatever you want, but just make sure you remember that the most important things cost less than you think

PLAYING WITH FRIENDS ON A COURSE YOU LOVE.

The army analogy, A smart soldier is a switched on soldier.

I think it is important to look smart, but a bag matching the clubs? I think that doesn't matter at all, also I don't think it matters for the clubs to be a set, its if and how you hit them that matters.  My equipment list:

Slip Over   : Really?

Polo Shirt : Lacoste, All Saints, Helly, Ralph Lauren, etc.

Cap : Titleist or Puma Golf

Belt : Puma Golf or Nike Golf

Trousers / Shorts : Not particular on make, mainly M&S/Next

Shoes : Adidas

Woods : Ping G5 - Driver, 3 & 5

Hybrid : N/A

Irons : TM Burner 2.0

Wedges : Titleist Vokey

Putter : Taylormade

Balls : Mainly Titlesit but depends what offer I can get, I lose too many.

Bag : Callaway Warbird

Trolley : N/A
