Handicap in matchplay playoff

Posted by: user127691 | Fri 25th Mar 2011 15:59 | Last Reply

We played a doubles better ball matchplay comp last night but our game went to a playoff.

On the first playoff hole I would usually be entitled to a shot but my belief and the groups understanding was that the shot entitlement meant I had used my shots on the original 18 holes.

We won the playoff without needing the shot, but I just wanted to make sure the ruling was right.

EGU Handicap Allowance paper states:-

Note 4: Hole-by-hole Play-off (sudden-death). When extra holes are played in handicap competitions, strokes should be taken in accordance with the Handicap Stroke Index.

Therefore you should have been entitled to your stroke.

If your club had followed CONGU's recommendation on SI allocation, you would not have received a stroke on the first extra hole - "None of the first 8 strokes should be allocated to the first or last hole".
