Change in Ryder Cup picks - good or bad

Posted by: user43166 [FORUM MODERATOR] | Tue 8th Feb 2011 19:54 | Last Reply

Just been reading how Olazabal has gained agreement to revert to 2 picks for the next Ryder Cup and make the European money list count ahead of the world points.

Good or bad move?

Bad move in my book - if only for the reduction in picks.

Olzabal claims that this would have given a better team over recent years. Fair enough, but if you have picks, you can pick these guys who finish in these places anyway. Doing away with them only restricts your flexibility in picking your team. You could end up with someone who has played well most of the season but has simply gone off the boil and then have to leave them out. Take Paul Casey - still don't know how he missed out last year.

What do think?

If the criteria of the leading ten on the money list is acceptable then I can see no reason why the first 12 should not be selected. Do away with the Captains picks completely, it always causes controversy.

If one is worried about current form then shorten the length of time to qualify, to just a few months before the event.
