Important Change to York Golf League
Calling all Golfers in the York & District Area,
We have had alot of interest in our League that will commence in June. Originally it was a team event, made up of teams of 4. The only concern was that some people were struggling to get a team of 4 together or some had holidays planned during summer. We have now come up with a new format for the league and it has been met with a great response. Please see the new format below. The course will be Skelton Park, also know as York Golf Centre. If you want more info or would like to enter then please get back in touch. Thank you - Martin
The Format
- Open to individual Golfers of all abilities, male or female.
- The league will run for 9 weeks starting in June 2011.
- The scoring will be stableford to ensure all abilities can play in the League.
- It will be played over 9 holes on an evening (night to be announced), using half handicaps.
- Your Stableford scores will be added together week on week and the league update. Please note we will only use your best 7 weeks scores. The reason for this is 1. If you have Holidays planned then it will enable you to miss 2 weeks wit out losing ground in the league 2. If you play all 9 weeks then it will allow you to have a couple of bad game weeks without effecting your position in the league.
- Also there will be bonus points available on the evenings. An extra 3 points for the Golfer who gets nearest the pin every week. 1 bonus point for any golfer scoring over 15 stableford points for the week. 2 bonus points for any golfer scoring over 18 stableford points and 3 bonus points for scoring over 23 points. (Please note these figures may alter slightly before the league starts).
- An extra bonus for any golfer who gets a hole in one on the night will get an extra 10 points added to their score for the evening.
- Evidence of your handicap will be needed to ensure the league is run fairly.
Prizes
- This is a brand new league so the prizes will not be holidays to the Algarve or anything like that, not this year anyway, but we do hope to provide something like this in future years. There will be trophies for the top 3 places on the league.
- And of course the obligatory wooden spoon for the bottom player, just for fun.
- Plus as a bonus prize for the top 3 golfers is free entry into next year’s league.
Cost to Enter
- It is just £5 per person for the season to register with the league. (this is to be paid before the league starts)
- Additionally each Golfer will need to pay the green fees for the course, this will only be £5-£7 per game you play in. (this is paid only on the night’s you play in)

Sounds great Martin and it's great that there are some many events, societies and games that golfers can take part in.
