By all accounts Matt, Slaley has become too commercial to live up to it's old name.

If I was you Matt I would consider some alternatives such as Matfen Hall or Garesfield or Stocksfield.

I know someone who played Slaley and it was his turn for the bacon butties on arrival. He ordered 4 (for the 4 ball) and was handed a bill for £30.00 - yep £7.50 for a butty.

Personally I prefer Matfen Hall, know for it's "ha ha" walls.

And the sarnies are more reasonable priced.

We had a society bash there not so long ago - Sarnies were £2.50 (I think) but we got a round of golf, soup chips and sarnies afterwards for £25 - bargain.
