Driver loft
Anyone want to offer their wisdom on driver lofts ?
I currently use a very cheap stick with a 9.5 degree loft, terrible slice, if I get it straight then height and distance is fine.
Walked into a golf store recently and was advised to try a 13/14 degree Nike driver ?

My two penneth on lofts. I've personally found that the higher the loft the easier it is to get a controlled, clean strike because the striking face is relatively bigger. My Big Ben is a 10.5deg as opposed to my old Ram 9.5deg. With the Ram I had a lovely shot shape but still pretty high. Changing to the BB and teeing up the same basically resulted in a 220yd pitch, great if the fairways are dry, not so good if they're wet. To counteract this I now tee the ball really high and in front of my left foot so that the club strikes the ball almost over centre giving it a bit of top spin keeping it lower. Having said that, they still sometimes come down with snow on them. My brother, on the other hand, (plays off 8) uses an 8deg with a really long shaft, and when he spanks one it travels about 50yds before it starts to climb and then keeps on going up. I tried it and hated it.

I recently retired a Donnay Slammer 9* loft which on a good day went well enough for a budget driver.
I alternate between a Howson GBH 406cc 10.5* and a Adams tight lies small head 10.5*. The success rate is better than the Slammer but I always feel a bit clumbsy with a 460cc head - hence the smaller alternative..
