I'm sure the TGA could get a north east team together.

If there isn't any other interest Ged, what about fourth team being the Golfshake All Stars? For those who aren't a member of any of the other societies.

I'm up for GS all stars if it happens.

Haha. Golfshake Allstars? Bit of an oxymoron, surely.

Think we mentioned that a while back.
Surely that would warrant a full on Ryder Cup style challenge over 2 days ? including qualification for teams and Captains picks ? thus meaning if it was limited players it would not deter from the 'open to all' North vs South.
Unfortunately this would be some what elitist but just like the Pros you would have to earn your spot from past Golfshake event attendance or Golfshake community commitment ie helping others on forums etc

I'm with the oxymorons

Thanks James was just after a second opinion

I am willing to play for the Golfshake Allstars if needed.

4 players per time Ged!
Seriously, I would have thought 12-16 players on each team would be about right.

Has anyone played the Marriott Hollins Hall nr Leeds? - not played it myself but stayed at A Marriott golf hotel last year (Dalmahoy) and it was excellent (and good value for the overnight deal @ £100 ish iirc).

Yes, Chris.
Played there a few years ago as it was the venue for the Golfshake.com Northern Cup which I was lucky enough to win. Very good course, but as with all these corporate venues there are a number of walks between greens to tees.
Would have no problem with holding the event there.

Is the consensus the 4 teams, 12 players per team ? any proposed format ?
Reply : Thu 30th Sep 2010 13:06
I'd be up for this. I don't mind being an oxy or a moron,
Reply : Thu 30th Sep 2010 13:16
Chris,
I thought you'd have formed your own 'Slugs' team

We were going to book Cookeridge for a CGL event, but then for some reason didn't. I can't for the life of me remember what that was though! Could have been that it's hard to get to?
Drop Allan an email Ged, i'm sure he'll be able to remeber.

What's the propose format ? Obviously already have:
North vs South - 2 team 32 -40 player event
Matchplay Series - 2 man team league format (hopefully coming 2011)

I'm sure Ged will explain more Darren, but when we were playing together the other week it will be singles match play (2 games going on in each 4 ball), 1 point for the win and obviously half for a half and then a point for whoever wins the NP an LD comps in each match. So, assuming it's 16 a side, there would be 18 points up for grabs in each game. i think Ged was talking about semi finals on the Saturday followed by a final and 3rd/4th place play-off on the sunday.

James, you're right with cookridge, we dropped it because its over the other side of Leeds from the motorway network.

It's a good offer from Cookridge, but then again the course as very very poor drainage, it's like a swamp in places and it's very difficult to get to.
Taking the travelling out of it, you really need this to be in the middle of a very dry period of weather else many would be disappointed with the course, i was when i played there.

i am not in a society but if there's a space on the GS team then i would have a go
