everyone on this site has one obvious thing in common, but how does everyone get into golf? some folk must have started young and,by now,be quite useful.i wish i did that.when it was my birthday a few years ago my mrs could'nt think of anything to get me and on passing a local golf club saw an offer on 5 lesson's for fifty quid,so decided that was what i was getting.what a surprise i got on the day,i had not ever hit a golf ball in my life before,or expressed an interest in golf, but now i play most weekends, love it....

I was waiting for my pigeons to come home from France when I decided I needed to get some kind of exercise. Told my wife I had thought of golf and would only play once a month so wife bought me some graphite shafted John Daly hippo clubs.

Now I play every week, the hippo's are in the garage along with other clubs and I live golf...

My first inspiration was many years ago when I found out Alice Cooper (my hero, then) was a golf fanatic, and thought, well if he does, why not me?  As it happened I was seeing a young lady whose Mother played and had just taken the pro at her course in as a lodger.  We sometimes went out to the course (at the end of the garden) and hit a few balls to get away from the arguments that happened in that household on a frequent basis.

Then about 10 years ago someone gave me some clubs and played a few rounds, not many, until 3 or 4 years ago I started working with someone who was looking for a regular partner and it all took off from there

My brother who plays off 5 told me never take up golf its too addictive, then when i retired a couple of years ago he gave me a course of lessons as a retirement presant ! he was right. My wife had been looking forward to getting all the D.I.Y. jobs finished,....... no chance now, the call of the greens is too much.

started about 2-3 years ago now - after tearing the hell out of my right calf muscle and sitting at home for a month helpless.  Then was told that to give it up as if I tore it again there was risk of serious damage.  Managed to get a free round in malaysia whilst on holiday the next year and then started a free 6 week course when i got back.  Been hooked ever since............dam game so addictive !!
