FIR, GIR...etc

Posted by: user41192 | Sat 12th May 2007 10:35 | Last Reply

I have never used this facility as yet and would like to start, but how do you record these stats whilst playing. Do you have a separate piece of paper to record all these.

Another problem I have is understanding it! I take it a FIR is hitting the f/way from tee and is a GIR hitting the green say on a par 4, on your second shot? A sand save? Is it getting down in 2 from a bunker shot?

Sorry for sounding a bit dumb!

I thought a sand save was actually getting out of a bunker with your first shot but that is probably wrong.

I normally record the stats on the right edge of the scorecard, tick/cross for FIR, tick/cross for GIR, number for putts,  S if in the sand and tick if Sand Save.

I've developed some sample advanced round recorded cards, if you are interested let me know your address, send a PM, and I'll send you some out in the post.

Hopefully the round recorded cards make it easier to record the advanced stats.

Definitions

FIR- Is fairway hit from the tee

GIR - Green hit with first shot on par 3, second shot on par4 or third on par 5.  So 2 under par, ideally leaving you with 2 putts for par.

Sand save - up and down for 2 regardless of making par or not.

Will try and create a word document with all these to record.

Thanks guys.

Just tried something that may help.

Before visiting the course your playing, using score tracker, input a dummy round for that course (remember to uncheck box for HCP tracking) then once you get onto next page which is stats GIR FIR etc..., just highlight the stats box then right click copy, and paste onto a word document. Print off and cut around outline and you have a nice small neat piece of info for recording your round.

You can then delete the dummy round.

Dave. I think both scenarios are fir and gir.

Dave, as far as I know.

1, FIR for this.  FIR is shot off the tee.

2, GIR for this. You still did it in regulation albeit 1 shot under.

Can anyone confirm, sand saves count from fairway bunkers, or is it just from greenside bunkers

Its only greenside. But is a sand save when you score par or better from the sand. Or just getting up and down in 2 from the sand?

Sand saves are technically from greenside bunkers.

Sand saves are up and down for 2 regardless if you make par or not.  So a bogey could still have a sand save.

Hi Paul in response to the question you would still record a green in regulation
