So.. how come you lot can play so often!
I'm a British Standard Civil Engineer, 8 till 5 in Tilbury, Essex. Wife and 2 kids with a house that needs decorating, a garden masquerading as a building site and a car that needs washing.
I get to play 18 holes once every 3 weeks or so (and feel guilty for so doing) and in the summer the odd nine holes after work.
So how come you guys seem to play so often and how do you afford it? - what's the secret?

9 till 5 Monday to Friday married with teenage daughter but when the weekend comes you know where I will be (sure there's a song in there some where).
I am happy to come in from work and do a hour in garden when needed ( wifes preparing tea ).
Saturday is another garden day or whatever (unless there is a society comp that day)
Sunday is my golf with buddies day - with my wifes blessing. "I like it when you go out for a few hours, I can get done better" she say's so I feel honour bound to oblige..
After all, she did buy me my first set of club's.

Believe me it wasn't easy, I've been playing every Sunday for about 5 years & I still get a bit of stick even now. My 2 daughters have even started to join in but I'm hoping as they grow up they'll want to go out shopping with the other half & maybe I can go Saturday & Sunday!!!
One can dream......

Wife and daughter spend most weekends messing about with horses. Playing golf gives me something to do.
Being 'self employed' helps for the occasional weekday round with 'hum', clients.

Im pretty much the same as you Andy.

Same as you Andy, although also run this site so probably play less
hence the handicap.

Surely not Darren... You are a dot-com millionaire by now and spend all your time on the course - you just don't post your scores to make us all think you don't play much.
Only joking mate... LOL. This is a great site btw and I hope it continues to grow and be successful.
Am looking forward to Wokefield comp too btw. It just so happened that I had the day booked off work to be on holiday anyway so I just decided to play golf instead.

Fortunately I only have to work in Tilbury and not actually reside here. I actually live in sunny Southend-on-Sea which is considerably nicer.
Dunton Hills Golf Centre is off the A128 just south of the A127 opposite the turning into West Hordon. It currently has a 18 hole main course and an 18 hole par 3 - not sure if it is the same one. Used to play there after work but it is a little ropey - but cheap.
I now mostly play at the Souith Essex Course which is about the same distance north of the A127 and is much better. Due to play in about a hours time but unfortunately I have a tender to submit by noon tomorrow so I cannot play. Life is so cruel. That said I worked yesterday (Bank Holiday) so will have friday or monday coming off in lieu so if I get on well in the garden.....

I quite like an early game of golf too. I think the earliest I've done is 05.30am though 06.00am is more usual. Did this a few times last year at Belfairs Park Municipal Golf Course near Southend. Being so early means having the rest of the day for family things, finishing with breakfast and generally avoiding greens fees. It is a great time of day to be on a course cut out of the woods with the rabbits and woodpeckers doing their stuff.

I am lucky in the sense that I do shift work and only get one weekend off every eight weeks. My rest days are midweek, the wifes at work and me and my mates head for the course.
However, they are planning a trip to Wensum Valley in September for 2 nights. I put it to the wifey and well, lets just say it's a bit cold at home!

If I want to become single, yeah!

John - I played the valley course at Wensum earlier this year and the Wensum course last year. Two very nice courses I thought.

Workmates went about two weeks ago and said the course was in great condition. Would love to go in September with them.
If only I could get the wife into golf, life would be so much easier!
