Classic ricochets
Played the front nine at Pine Ridge wednesday night which is a lovely course elegantly carved out of a pine forest. Whilst it looks pretty it does provide some hazards for the unwary golfer.
On the Par 3 3rd one of our group played out well from amongst the trees avoiding probably 20 yards of woodwork only to hit a lone silver birch at the fairway edge and find the ball return almost to the exact same spot.
On the 8th another in our group manged to hit one of the 150yd marker posts which at Pine Ridge are painted steel tubes. The rifle shot ricochet saw the ball cross two fairways and end up at the far edge of the ajacent fairway - much to our amusement.
So... has anybody got any favorite tales of rebounds and ricochets and hitting things they perhaps shouldn't with their balls?
More of mine include regularly bouncing off the roof of the driving range at Garrons Park when hooking off the 1st tee and squarley striking many of the inconviniently placed trees at Leatherhead Golf Course.

Our Society were playing Hawkstone Park in Shropshire and John drove his ball into the trees to left of the tee. He decided it would be a good idea to thrash at the ball to get down the fairway.
Doing so the ball smashed into the tree directly in front of him. The ball flew back and hit him square on in the stomach, doubled up he hit the floor, and so did we!!
I couldn't move for laughing so much!! We had to let the 3 ball behind us through as no-one could set up without laughing hysteriacally!! Fantastic day on the golf course, as usual.
Making me smile as I am writing this now!!

Hellidon Lakes, North v South comp, think it was the 11th Par 5, 4th shot to the green (2nd went through the out of bounds with a ricochet, played out sideways). Badly sliced a 7 iron into the woods, heard it hit at least three trees and turned away to my partner (Wayne) only to see him laughing as my ball rolled gently out onto the green ending up about 8ft from the flag. Then two putted....

I have an 8 year old that plays his playstation from 6am and a 3 year old that likes to jump on my head at 6am. I have no need for an alarm clock in this house.

"It's nice to have a variety of shots available to use at any given time, that's what we practise for eh Tim

Perhaps driving ranges should include a variety of trees / posts / outbuildings so we can practise hitting them!?
