Wedge's
Check out Golf Monthly (out now) for Wedge test's:
16 Manufacturer's have supplied wedges from their current range to be tested by 8 players of differing abilities.
Technical rep checked out the tester's own wedges and surprise, surprise found 6 needed changing their set up's (degrees, lie etc).
A very good report for anyone wanting to buy a wedge.

I am going to Hijack this to save me starting a new thread.
Right basically I need to improve my short game. I bought a decent odyssey #2 putter and have had some fantastic results. Last months average 1.94 per hole (yes I know it could still be better)
Right I need some advice, I really need to replace my Sand Wedge (it came with my very first set - bloody Donnay )
When I bought this set I bought a 60 degree dunlop copper wedge - I really, really need to replace this - and yes you can laugh
So as I understand I will keep my Nike PW that came with my Ignite Irons set.
I need a Gap wedge (is that 54 degree?), a new sand wedge (56 degree?) and a lob wedge (60 degree)
Are these the correct degrees that I need for these clubs?

way too many wedges to chhose from - whats the main reason you guys would change a wedge? is it purely to get more spin on the green ?

Matt,
Wedges are not so much about distance but accuracy..On saying that your doing well to hit you PW 100 yards..
I carry a maximum of 4 wedges (sometimes 3):
PW 48..75 yards
GW 52..50 yards
LW 60..33 yards..great for up and over and a soft green landing.
SW 56.. Generally just sand castles and big holes..
Try sticking a 52* gap wedge in Matt..
But if it is a fringe shot and a decent carry I might give the "texas wedge" a hit...

I desperatly need a gap wedge. I hit my PW 120 yds, and my sand wedge 75 yards, thats a massive gap.

A 60* degree wedge is a hard baby to master and you would probably find yourself hitting a 52 * more than a 60* .
I carry both but I got the 52* first.
This time of year when the greens are so hard I try to hit the pw to front fringe of green and let it trickle on. But the big word in there is "try"...

3 cleveland wedges, and they went for £92. Very suspicious.
Compare it with this guy.

I hate bounce on the bottom of clubs. My sand wedge is useless.
I end up using my lob wedge for my bunker shots, as the bounce o my sand wedge tends to dig in to much.
What would be the reason for this oh wise and ancient one's?

I thought the bounce was the curve at teh bottom of the club. Your ''standard'' SW you get with a set tends to have a greater amount of bounce, because a novice tends to need more help getting out, but makes it a useless club for tight lies such as the fairway.
Thats why all good golfers will tend not to use the SW supllied with a set of irons but rather use a specialist wedge. 56, 58 or 60 dgree.

So after much searching, asking and generally annoying everybody stood waiting at the first tee. I was pointed towards these

edge
I bought a 52, 56 and a 60!!
Played my first round after just buying them (shot a 94) - felt more comfortable with them straight away. If I had not blew up on one hole
(hit from bunker to bunker around the green) it could have been in the 80's :O
With more practice I feel I could knock a few strokes off my handicap!!
Its half term next week which means I will be playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as its the mother in laws 50th on Saturday!! Cant wait!!

Chris,
If you're playing 4 times in a week , you need to get yourself Dave Pelz's short game bible.
Read it cover to cover and with practice you'll soon be hitting your wedges the distance you want to.
It worked for Tom Kite.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have flicked through some of his books and I must say they look far to technical for me. He does bore the crap out of me on the Golf Channel as well. Even the mrs thinks he is dull and always says 'not that bore, again'
Any video tips on the web anybody knows for the short game??
