I always suspected that I was standing too close to the ball - after I've hit it.

If a cause of hooking is having both v's pointed at the non target shoulder then where should the v's be pointing?

Gary, I learned this game from a book which I got out of the library and the V question was simply explained. It said that the riight hand v should point to the right shoulder and the left hand V should point to the chin.  This should then show 1 to 1 and half knuckles on the left hand. This grip is considered to be fairly weak and not everyones cup of tea, but I firmly believeI that the palms of the hands should be opposed to one another.

have always gripped the club this way and see no reason to change.

This does not mean, of course that any other grip is incorrect. After all the object is to get back to the same position as that of address.
