We don't - but the pleasure of new equipment soon over shadows the beatings and the bruises do eventually  wear off...

I suppose I'm in a priveledged position.  My wife and daughter are both very keen on horses (not so much my wife at the moment as she's sitting downstairs with multiple fractures to her hand and wrist) and the cost of golf pales into insignificance compared to running the nags.  So this week it's £120 livery, £170 vet, £55 for shoes, £60 competition entry, £80 diesel etc...

Chris this may sound dumb but whats a 50 degree tour wedge ?? is this like a lob wedge ?

For the past 2 years I have only used my driver + my jack nicklaus clubs (3 and 4 hybrids, then from 5-9iron a pitching wedge and a sand wedge) oh plus a £10 putter from american golf and a chipper from sports soccer for £6.  I dont know what degree my sand wedge and pitching wedge are as they just came standard with the set.

If someone does have more than 14 clubs in their bag what happens? do they get penalties or disqualified ?

Chris - you talk of your wedges as 'Tour' wedges, Are they off the tour van?? Whats the difference between them and retail wedges?

oh ok they're ping retail 'tour' wedges. i just asked as i've been reading all about the wedges for tour players and all the special weighting's, heads and grinds they have.

I'd love to have a wedges like that (fitted to my every need) but i guess they would cost a fair packet. Chris you'll propably find that your wedges will happily bend further without damaging them but PING just won't do it or guarantee themif you did

flippin heck guys you lot have taken this to another extreme !! 2 degrees movement, 4 degree lie angle, this game is far too technical for me.....chris i read in a book if you want to get lots of spin on a ball you should use something called balata balls (I just bought  abox from ...wait for it...TESCO, for £8 ) ok possibly they might not work but im gonna try them out and see on sunday.....i'll let you all know how I get on with them.

Alps,

Topflight do a balata ball's. I tried them once but found them too soft and lost distance. My chipping was poor then so I probably didn't do the ball justice at all.

It was a guy at AGD that put me on to them - a steal at £6 for 12 he told me.

I found one a couple of weeks ago and give it a couple of hits and again it fell short and I don't recall any spin but I was trying to roll out rather than spin - not that I can choose like....
