Any Ideas?
Morning All,
I Currently Play with Wilson Di9 Irons and the Loft difference between my PW & SW is 13* which gives me some problems being that i hit my PW about 155 Yards and my SW about 115 Yards i am trying to find either a GW or a AW which would help to reduce the difference, however i cant seem to find any site that sells Di9 wedges, any ideas would be helpful and appreciated.

Hi there.
Iused to have a set of these irons and according to the spec, the pw only has a loft of 42.5 deg & the sw 55deg! My current 9 iron is 43 degrees! I believe american golf can supply gap wedges for this set at 46 and 48 degrees.

I think they sell for around £50 btw

Here are the lofts for the Di9's and as one can see they are all well cranked down to give a false distance.
Why they do this is for one reason only, marketing hype as it is distance, distance, and distance, that sells.

Its also a good way to get people to shell out extra cash for the gap wedges!

Barmy lofts plus 1/2 longer , if this dosen't scream out go and get yourself a set made nothing does ! I have no doubt that you are hitting your PW 150 yrds .

And for the same reason Martin that most high hcp'rs drop the 3 iron for a Hybrid as the 3 iron is almost a 1 iron!

Thanks for all the advice guys, in answer to one of the points yes i do hit them straight, the only reason my handicap is what it is, is that i struggle off the tee with slightly wayward drives, normally a slice and then i am scrambling for Par. My goal this year is to get down to a 8-9 Handicap and its the 155yard inwards scoring shots i am working on hence the reason for the extra wedges.

Martin, with the lofts you have then you will find it difficult the nearer you get to the pin.
Myself, I have four wedges, with the most powerful (The PW) going only 100 yards, which leaves the other three for even shorter distances. I am surprised you have got down to 12 handicap and still slicing a golf ball.

Correct, Wayne, alignment is everything.

It could possibly be my alignment yes i am self taught and enjoy the challenge of teaching myself so would probably never have lessons, as i dont play enough. The reason i am down to 12 is i am quite good at recovering from bad lies, if i sorted out my driving i am sure i would get down to a sub 9 handicap, i have worked very hard on my short game over the winter and this has made a massive difference.

Martin, I see from your stats of your last round only that on a few holes you hit the fairway then failed to make GIR. Vice versa on a few you missed the fairway then made GIR. Do you seem to fair better from a slightly " tee'd up" lie in light rough or do you prefer to play from a nice tight fairway? Judging by your H/cap I would think the latter.
Dont know what your couse is like. Is the rough ROUGH!!
I myself almost never get GIR if i miss the fairway.
You do seem to be hitting it miles with your irons. How far do you hit your 3 iron?

The lay of the ball does not really bother me as long as i have a good swing and am able to make decent contact with the ball i am fairly happy.
I dont use a 3iron my club distances are as follows
Driver 290 with a slice
3W 240
Resuce Wood 230
5IRON 220
6IRON 205
7IRON 185
8IRON 175
9IRON 160
PW 155
SW 115
LW 90
All are averages in good conditions.

With all that amazing power you only need an 8 iron, wedge and putter to play to your handicap.

Thanks John if only, this post was meant to be about where i could get wedges to fill the gaps, i have only put my distances down as a reference to some questions on here not to show how far i can hit the ball, i am by no means a brilliant golfer and dont claim to be however i do work hard on trying to improve and feel this is the ideal place to get advise from other golfers on how to achive my targets.

You have made it very difficult to help, Martin, because most of us play with clubs that are lofted correctly. My PW is 48, my Gap wedge is 52, my SW is 56 and my Lob wedge is 60, so as you can see much higher lofted than yours and therefore make it easier to play fuller shots for the shorter distances. As you can appreciate it is easier to control a fuller shot than one where you are trying to take something off of it.

I made this mistake when I brought a set of Callaway X 20's the lofts were so strong and random it was extremely difficult to get a wedge combination to fill the gaps at the bottom end without spending a fortune.
Initially I just brought a 52 and 56 Vokey thinking the Callaway would be standard lofts it was then apparant I had a huge gap between the 52 and the PW. I didn't feel all that comfertable playing a 48 degree wedge so was stuck really. In the end it was easier to sell the clubs buy an alternative set that had standrard lofts than messing about with them. John is right to hit a full PW that goes 125 yards is a dream compared to trying to take some off to get the distance.
