Difference between a masters and an open?

Help.... the internet has failed in my quest for information!!!!!

What exactly is the difference betweeen an open and a masters in terms of the majors?

One thing is that an open is open to everyone, the masters on the other hand is open to the top fifty (I think!) world ranked players and invited other players.

  • the Masters has one venue ,Augusta, and the open's are on a rota system,
