Stableford comp / frost greens

Posted by: user281741 | Sat 30th Jan 2010 17:23 | Last Reply

Just wanted to ask if anybody knows what the situation is regarding a competition started on temporary greens due to frost.

Could the course be opened part way through the day, and if so would that not be a handicap to those that had gone out earlier as it would now be a different course.

Just asking as due to play a stableford tomorrow, frost forecast tonight, and wondered what the ruling is!

thanks

Of course it wold be a handicap but that is their choice. Personally if I were wishing to play in a competition I would not start until the course was relatively playable. Frost greens are very difficult.

In my case I have to start at 8.00 dues to work in the afternoon.

Then you will not have the best conditions to play under, the choice is yours.

I was more asking from a running the competition point of view and if there are any rules on it.

I realise that I have a choice to play or not play, I just wanted to know if the course can be changed once a competition has started.

I am afraid not, Paul, you have to accept the weather as it is.

I used to play many 36 hole scratch events and qutie often I had the wrong end of the draw having to play in stronger winds and rain.

Having said that, you are a very good player so would know how to cope with hard frosty greens in your approaches. Sometimes the tougher conditions focus the mind
