Recommendations for 3 wood, putter and a rescue club?

Posted by: user46817 | Thu 22nd Mar 2007 17:51 | Last Reply

Looking for a new 3 wood and rescue club.

Hi, I am looking for a strong 3 wood with no offset/onset and a rescue club again with no offset/onset.

I have heard that Adams are quite good.

Would also like to get a good new putter Usually (try to) play Upland Links type courses - greens medium-fast.

Would appreciate your thoughts as I am just catching up with the latest technology.

Many thanks

Phil

Hi Phil

Considering the differences in our handicaps, I feel a bit stupid attempting to offer you any advice, but you may want to consider the TP versions of the Taylormade Fairway Metals and Rescues, which I assume have less offset than than the standard version (which I think are great). There is a Taylormade TP Fairway 2 wood 13 deg in the range.

Hiya guys, I'm definately not gonna even try to advise on this one as far as technology, latest faces etc go, but I usually use on difficult holes use my 3 utility off the tee (as its safe most of the times) but last year just for the sake of it I bought a really cheap 3 wood - yes it was really cheap - dunlop 3 wood from good ol sports soccer (now called sports world) for less than a fiver.  Used it on a few rounds and it gets a lot less distance than my usual club, plus its harder to hot.  Anyway didnt moan as it was cheap, but last week I got a wilson 3 wood from american golf for £20 (knocked down from £60), so far I have used this on about 2 rounds but the distnce I get with this club kills the dunlop one and my existing utility.

Im not a good enough player to even try and get one of the better known models for the higher prices but i think for you Philip you will definately benefit from better known brands.

ps, a good article in the golf magazine also explaining about the cheap cheap dunlop £6 driver......
