Posted by: user270701 | Mon 9th Nov 2009 23:03 | Last Reply

i am new to the game and was wondering what type of balls are best to use, also the what do the numbers represent for example Titleist 1, Titleist 2. Any help on the choice of balls would be greatly appricated

Hi Andrew... don't worry about the balls you use until you get quite good at the game. my advice is just get the cheapest distance balls you can find. maybe dunlop/ donnay/ top-flite etc. or even lake balls. it doesn't matter just yet.maybe you can get some old balls on ebay, just get the cheapest you can find. a good place to buy is your local "sports direct" shop.

p.s the numbers are just for identification. if there are 4 of you playing with the same balls you can all use a different number. thats all.

Hi Andrew,

Go for a distance rather than a spin ball as this will help reduce any slice.  Try Sports Direct for Dunlop LoCo (great ball for a beginner and about £8 for 24) or similar.  Avoid lake balls unless they are pearl or A grade and use the same type of ball all the time if you can.  This is because different balls behave differently and go different distances so using the same type all the time will help you to get more consistent distances with all your clubs, including the putter.

Don't think sports direct do Lo Co's any more, Chris, but he Dunlop Quadra is meant to be a decent ball, and at £8.99 for 24 brand new not too desperate if you lose them.
