Build the Perfect Golfer
Here's one for you all. A bit of fun and it's up to you if you want to justify your answers or not.
You have been appointed Chief Mad Scientist by one of the top golf manufacturers (I won't name them). They have tasked you with splicing DNA to create the perfect golfer and only the best will do. Your first job is decide who's DNA you want. You have to choose someone for each of the following: -
- Swing - You can go textbook, consistency, fluidity, how it looks, etc
- Driving/woods - You can go for power, accuracy, consistency, shot making, etc
- Iron play - You can go for shot making, ball striking, green hitting, accuracy, etc
- Recovery (not that your golfer will need it) - Getting out of trouble, inventiveness, ability to minimise the damage, etc. Includes bunker play.
- Short game - You can go for touch, feel, inventiveness, accuracy, etc
- Putting - Consistency, nerve, nailing the clutch putt, sinking the long ones, etc
So you have six criteria. You can pick anyone you want, past or present, but there is one rule. To keep the DNA pure, you can only pick a player once. That means you have to pick six diffferent players. Choose carefully!
And if anyone wants to do a golfshake members only one they're welcome to!

Interesting challenge that, Chris, will need to think long and hard about it.

I can see Hawkins getting all excited at the prospect of being appointed Chief Mad Scientist!

Here goes,
SWING - Rory McIlroy, Good at present and can only get better.
DRIVING/WOODS - Tom Watson, didn't miss many FW's.
IRON PLAY - Monty of old.
RECOVERY - Seve, the old saying. "He could get up and down from a Rubbish Bin".
SHORT GAME - Olazabal, just as good as Seve.
PUTTING - Tiger, his strongest part of the game over the years.

Obviously I'm desperately disappointed on not being automatically named as Chief Mad Scientist so I'd propose:
Build - Montgomery
Hair - McIlroy
Personality - Faldo
Swing - Furyk
Nicotene habit - Cabrera
Alcohol habit - Daly
Dress sense - Payne Stewart (or Daly recently)
Bottle - pre-seniors Norman
That'll teach 'em, mwahhaa....

Swing- Tom Wieskopt
Driving Sergio Garcia (would have picked Tom again)
Iron Play Faldo in his glory years
Short game Lee Trevino (with a slice like that you need to be godd around the greens though for bunkers would choose Ernie)
Putting Ben Crenshaw

HMMM
SWING - Fred Couples - makes it look so easy
DRIVING - Payne Stewart - i felt he used to hit fairways most consistantly
IRONS - Nick Faldo - always seemed to be really accurate (when i was a lad)
SHORT GAME - Olazabal - I feel he has one of the best short games in golf
RECOVERY - Seve/Mickleson - 2 of the worlds most amazing shot makers
PUTTING - Bernhard Langer - might be wrong but i think he was one of the best/most consistant putters in the game

Bernard Langer had quite a long spell suffering from the yips, so cannot be called the best putter

My apologies john
since he got over them i think he was one of the best

Swing : Hogan - goes without saying only one of two players to own their own swing.
Driver/woods : Cabrera - never heard a fizz off a 3 wood like it!
Iron play : Tiger - Just witnessed to many unbelievable shots that have made me jump out of the chair, I normally reserve that for Welsh Rugby tries!!
Recovery : Seve - Just magical should never have gotten awaywith so much pure genius.
Short game : Mickleson - pure class totally in control with awedge in his hands, especially be handicapped play the wrong way round,
Putting : Nicklaus- Noboby has made as many clutch putts as this man, but like all his records he's being caught.
Pat great pick on Wieskoft, you must have a good memory not much footage of him here's a link for those who have never seen him unfortunately not in his hay day but still very good.

SWING - Ernie Els. Effortless Power and control.
IRON PLAY - Faldo in his day.
DRIVING/WOODS - John Daly. 'Grip it and rip it'. Not the most accurate but awesome to watch.
RECOVERY - Got to be Seve.
SHORT GAME - Phil Mickleson. Unbelievelable what he can do at times.
PUTTING - Tiger.

Swing: Els - smooth as.
Driving/Woods: Daly - for the attitude
Irons: Langer - Would have been woods but saving him for putting.
Recovery: Harrington - quietly creative
Short game: Mickelson - Magic
Putting: Woods - some day he just can't miss - and from distances we'd be happy just to two putt from.
