Games that People Play

I was wondering if any groups out there played any good, interesting variations of competitive golf.

On Saturday I played with my brother in law, Darren and his mate and as there were only 16 holes open due to soggy ground we had to decide on a format to keep the game interesting and competitive. Darren suggested 6 points available on each hole with full handicaps in use. This was either split 4-2, 4-1-1, 3-3 etc. depending on the outcome of each hole. It worked quite well although I had my doubts after not scoring anything for 4 holes. I still lost (and paid for the drinks at the end) and Darren won convincingly with over half the point available, but it did mean we had a match until 2 holes form the end.

Just wondered if anyone had other ideas for keeping the game competitive, especially when in a three ball and match play is not possible.

John
