Wrong Handicap Calculation!

Posted by: user20126 [FORUM MODERATOR] | Sun 27th Sep 2009 01:13 | Last Reply

Could somebody look into the handicap system here on Golfshake.

My handicap was 13 (13.4).

I then played The Priors course and shot 78 (Par 70, SSS 69)

This meant that I was four shots under my handicap for this round.

With a handicap of 13.4 I am therefore a Category three golfer, this means that any reduction I get is 0.3.

So therefore I should have had my handicap reduced by 1.2 shots, GolfShake only reduced my handicap by 1.1 shots.

This is my calculations for this score......

13.4 - 0.3 = 13.1 (still a cat 3 golfer)

13.1 - 0.3 = 12.8 (still a cat 3 golfer)

12.8 - 0.3 = 12.5 (still a cat 3 golfer)

12.5 - 0.3 = 12.2 (now a cat 2 golfer)

I put my scores on other sites/software and they have all given me a 1.2 shot reduction.

Thanks for looking into this for me.

Russell,

There is something written somewhere that effects the "Reduction" when going into a lower Category. The drop from 12.5 goes into Cat2 so may be 0.2 only. I may also be totally wrong but that seems the only answer I can think of.

Hi David,

From my understanding of the CONGU system if my handicap is 12.5 then I'm still a Category 3 golfer and therefore my next reduction will be 0.3.

Hopefully this will get sorted.

I've also been informed today that the SI for each holes has been adjusted for both my courses.

This could be why the system is not working for me at the moment!

They have altered the SI for some holes based on the scores from all the competitions held during the past year.

I don't see how the SI can make any difference to your score, Russ.

Russ I concur with your analysis as per - http://www.golfshake.com/help/golfhandicap.php

Can I log in to your account to double check, the system calculations are fine I just need to check the data.

Regards, Darren.
