Who goes 1st?

Posted by: user50657 | Sat 15th Aug 2009 01:13 | Last Reply

Just watching the USPGA and I have to say I'm not clued up so much on the rules as the guys I play with are for fun rather than serious golf.

However on the the 18th of the 2nd round Rich Beem has just putted even though Harrington was off the putting surface (although closer to the hole.)

I always thought if you were off the green then you went 1st.

Hi Graham

My understanding is whoever is furthest from the hole will play first

Darren is correct, Graham, furthest from the hole plays on all shots.

In a normal, friendly game of golf I would let the person who is off the green play first.

Then when everyone is on the green we can either take the flag out of the hole or it can be tendered if need be.

The pros play a different game to us, they have caddies to get the flag and carry and fetch for them.

We tend to do the same in friendly games, Russ, usually because I certainly like to have the pin left in when playing from around the green.

I always thought it was whoever was furthest tho' my playing partner did mention that the pros played different. I reckon he just used it as an excuse to grt his shot in first knowing my recent putting woes (which hopefully have now gone).
