Too Good to be True??

Posted by: user40826 | Sun 26th Jul 2009 16:52 | Last Reply

Having decided 'Money to tight to mention' I have been trawling t'internet for (dare I say it) lakeballs!!

Has anybody used this company before?

Basically - will I be dissapointed? http://www.golfballs.co.uk/40-titleist-pro-v1-lake-balls--grade-a-1.aspx

Edit: And these? http://www.golfballs.co.uk/40-titleist-nxt-extreme-lake-balls--pearl.aspx

I've had some bad lake balls in the past, but I simply cant afford new golf balls anymore.  I dont go through many new ones, but we are trying to save money anyway we can.

It just seems to good to be true.  I'm thinking they may be the older, older Pro V1's.  But then the NXT Extreme have not been out very long.

Hmmmmm.

I have a sleeve of those sitting on my desk, David, but just cannot get round to giving them a try. I think when I run out of my balatas I will move onto the bridgestone treosoft, as they feel pretty similar.

Chris,

That link says its US based.

There is a good company based in the South that I used for a number of years to get my "Range Balls" called GOLF BALLS DIRECT. I'll try and find them, they used to be in East Grinstead, they also personalised Balls so also had a number of 'Overprints' too.

Yeah I noticed that, their contact details say Worcestershire though - it could just be an office there??

So whats the vote on the original company??  Should I risk all and go for the NXT Extreme's or go for the Ebay ones?

Vote now!

Hi Chris,

Direct Golf are selling Pro V 1 practice balls at 24 for £10.99

http://www.direct-golf.co.uk/golf_balls/dguk/titleist_pro_v1_practice_golf_balls_24_golf_balls/p9631

Depends how much you want to compromise.  I bought some of these the other week and although one or two are a bit roughed up they are generally pretty good.  I don't think it would matter what golf balls I used at the moment though as none of them go where I want them to!

Have they actually got PRACTICE written down the side??

Bloody hell this is hard work. Who would have thought it.

I get my golf balls from here

http://www.aforedablegolf.co.uk/default.asp#

my last purchase was the bridgestone and they were all useable with a handful with just very minor scuffs on them and some were in an almost perfect condition

regards

Darren

The plot thickens - The address given

Units 3 and 4 Lower Park Farm
Storrage Lane
Alvechurch
Worcestershire
B48 7ER
United Kingdom

is the same address as 'The Sports HQ.'  Now they sell the same balls, with the same graphics but more realistic. 24 balls for around £28 pound.

And also http://www.forgan.co.uk/termsconditions.aspx run from the same address

Feeling like a detective here - I should just buy some bloody golf balls

I'm really fussy about which golf ball I use (probably too fussy).  After trying many of the premium brands, I changed to Wilson Staff Dx2 Soft after finding one on the course, using it as a provisional and liking it.  They're softer than a Pro V1, go longer than a NXT Extreme or Bridgestone B330 and don't scuff up badly either.  They're also only £15.99 a dozen or £27 for two dozen from American Golf.

If you are planning to spend £28 on two dozen lakeballs Chris, I'd recommend giving these a go first.

Have to agree with Chris ^^ on this one. I also found a dx2 on the course and absolutely loved it. Bought 3 dozen BRAND NEW from www.best4balls.com for £29.85 plus £2.99 delivery, theres also a free delivery option.

I allways use lake balls usually packaged from JJb or tesco somewhere like that and they are just as good as new so I thought I would try a bulk buy on abay after good experiences with lake balls. I just had a delivery of 50 supposidly pearl/pearl1 grade Srixon AD333 lake balls off ebay and I wouldn't be able to put any more than 10 in my bag to use the rest are not just marked they are split and really badly scuffed up terrible purchase. I won't slag the company I had them off to much just yet as I am awaiting a response to what they intend to do depending on the outcome you may hear more.

My mate though has just brought 48 pro V1 practice balls from JJB that were in much better condition and don't think they have practice written on the side (not 100% sure on that one though) and they cost him £30 that's £3 less than I had to pay for a bag of dodgy Srixons so I will probably go and get a set of them. Lake balls are good as long as brought from the right source.

I was getting a 5 wood to stop within 3 feet off the tee yesterday as the greens were receptive.  I stop them just as well as a Pro V1x, though I've never been one to generate a massive amount of backspin.

There was two of them John, on 10 and 16.  You wouldn't have noticed them as you weren't on the green........

As an added bonus, they seem to show up quite well in the trees too.....

just remembered the 10th. You drove just over the bunker on left & then duffed a chip. On both of those holes I walked away with par!!

Darren,

I tried the E6+ & they were a nice ball but I couldn't tell the difference between them & the titty NXT tour.

Yes it was the 11th John (and yes you missed that green too).  And yes I three putted from around 30 yards from the pin (I overclubbed after worrying about clearing the water).  I didn't say I stopped 3 feet from the pin, I meant 3 feet from where it pitched.

If you want cheap AD333 follow Dave Knatt round a golf course at a safe distance and you can pick up the ones he sheds at regular intervals.

Don't use refinished balls.  They don't perform the same from one ball to the next, let alone performing like the new version.  Lake balls in decent condition are not too bad but I wouldn't touch refurbs.
