Driver dispersion!

Posted by: user20126 [FORUM MODERATOR] | Fri 26th Jun 2009 19:45 | Last Reply

If you were faced with a hole that had a fairway width of 80 yards, would you expect to hit the fairway every time?  Or how many times out of ten would you expect to hit the fairway.

I'd say at the moment that I'm probably hitting the fairway six out of ten tries!

The fairway is wide but you aim at a marker post and I'm wondering if the tee is setup to send you the wrong way?

I have given up on the idea of hitting fairways from the tee. I am happy enough if it is still in play.

Russ, your driving is not really your problem because if you miss the fairway it is not by much. I know, I have seen it for myself.

Once you manage to hit the driver with a consistent shape then you will always hit the fairways.

 Second attempt:

I will always favour a straight shot and I think I know how to achieve it. Currently I adopt a slightly open stance, have a just over 3/4 swing and am concious about rythym and making sure I neither fall into (push) or out (draw/hook)  of a shot. If I middle it I doubt if it would go much further than a full blooded las.

That said, knowing the principles about fade and draw I would rarely use it as I can't be sure of the result.

I frequently get draws from my drive but it's toally unintentional. Like JP says stay in play.
